Personalized Psychiatric Care for Children & Adolescents

At New York Child Psychiatry (NYCP), we provide comprehensive psychiatric care and individualized medication management for children and adolescents throughout New York State. Our approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and focused on understanding the whole child—not simply treating a diagnosis.

When medication may be appropriate, our psychiatric providers carefully evaluate your child's symptoms, developmental stage, medical history, family history, current medications, and overall functioning to develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Children and adolescents can experience mental health concerns in many different ways. Changes in mood, behavior, attention, sleep, relationships, or school performance may indicate an underlying psychiatric condition or may be related to stress, developmental changes, or other circumstances.

Our psychiatric services can help evaluate and treat concerns including:

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Depression and mood disorders

  • ADHD

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Trauma and stress-related conditions

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Behavioral and emotional concerns

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Irritability and emotional dysregulation

  • Eating disorders and related psychiatric concerns

  • Complex or co-occurring mental health conditions

Individualized Medication Management

Medication can be an important part of treatment for some children and adolescents. At NYCP, we take a careful and conservative approach to psychiatric medication management.

Treatment may include:

  • Comprehensive medication evaluations

  • Starting a new psychiatric medication

  • Adjusting an existing medication

  • Monitoring treatment effectiveness

  • Monitoring potential side effects

  • Reviewing medication interactions

  • Evaluating changes in symptoms

  • Coordinating medication treatment with psychotherapy

  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers when appropriate

We believe families should understand their treatment options and feel comfortable asking questions. Medication decisions are made collaboratively, with careful consideration of the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives.

More Than Medication

Psychiatric medication is only one component of comprehensive mental health care. When appropriate, we coordinate medication management with psychotherapy, family support, school-based resources, and other services.

Our goal is to create a treatment plan that addresses the whole child and supports their emotional, behavioral, developmental, and social well-being.

Specialized Psychiatric Care for Eating Disorders

Our Eating Disorders Division provides specialized care for children and adolescents experiencing eating disorders and related mental health concerns.

Because eating disorders frequently involve both psychological and medical considerations, our approach may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, psychotherapy, family involvement, and coordination with other members of the child's treatment team.

A Collaborative Approach to Your Child's Care

We know that choosing psychiatric care for your child is an important decision. At NYCP, we work with children, adolescents, parents, and caregivers to create a supportive treatment environment built on communication, trust, and individualized care.

Whether your child is receiving psychiatric care for the first time or needs ongoing medication management, our goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based treatment that helps them feel better, function better, and move toward a brighter future.
